Disruptive Photo Launch.

Posted on the 8th of April, 2023.

Hello and welcome to Disruptive Photo, and our first blog post.

The Background:

The negative vibes that have been turned into extremely positive vibes.

This venture has been born out of a highly toxic relationship with a former business partner and a studio I invested in significantly both with time and money. Despite the financial loss, I chose to simply walk away from the toxicity and start afresh.

After a year of legal action, I have recovered all my property from the previous venture and subsequently found myself with a mountain of top-quality photographic lighting / grip equipment, and accessories piling up I my home and not being used.

This was clearly a serious waste of extremely good kit and was eating away at me on point of principle. I have a full-time job in a different industry, and work on a rotation so am away a fair bit of the year. This prompted me to think what I could usefully do with all these assets when I have limited time to use them all myself?

The Solution.

Having always been very pro-active in helping others develop their skills and careers, all be it in other industries, I decided to kick off this initiative with a heavy focus on doing a FREE sessions.

Part of the ethos is to offer a series of free events to help like-minded creatives by giving them access to space and quality equipment that may otherwise be out of their reach. This well help to let people focus on the all-important issues of creativity rather than worrying about the cost of the studio and equipment rental.

This should allow much more time for experimentation, and taking time to get things right without having to watch the clock and worry about costly studio time.

I am looking to set up a proper full time commercial studio, but the criteria I have set out for it are proving somewhat difficult to attain. I have set the bar rather high and as-yet have not found what I am looking for. I have therefore decided that in the mean-time I will start to run events from my own home.

The Short term space.

Despite living in an apartment, it is extremely well suited as a photographic studio. It is a loft type apartment in a beautiful old grade A listed building. It has lovely barrel-vaulted brick ceilings with a height of 3.3m. American white oak floors, and is decorated and furnished in a contemporary manner that works very well with its historic surroundings. There are seven large windows in the main living space which is where the shooting area is set up providing masses of natural light, The east facing side is flooded with beautiful light in the morning.

The Gear.

I have a vast inventory of top-quality lighting equipment comprising of two main eco systems. I have an already large selection of Profoto kit which is simply the best lighting equipment you can buy and, I am constantly expanding that part of the inventory.

We also have continuous lighting heads (which utilise the Bowens S mount), LED panels and LED lamp soft boxes as well.

I have invested a lot in top quality Grip equipment as well, to offer robust and secure platforms for all the lighting kit and accessories.

Our focus is always on fostering creativity, cooperation, sharing of knowledge, nurturing and generally good vibes.
